RAINBOW BRIDGE
A Tribute to the ones we've lost
Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the
animals, especially for animals who are suffering;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or
frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to
death. We entreat for them Thy mercy and pity, and
for those who deal with them we ask a heart of
compassion, gentle hands, and kindly words. Make us
to be true friends to animals and so to share the
blessings of the merciful.
Albert
Schweit
We create these pages with sadness however they are
dedicated to the dogs who did not make it. Surely
they are in Doggie Heaven. It is hard to save all
the dogs collected, some of them don't make it no
matter how hard we try. We would like to share with
you some of these stories.

Sandy |
|
|
|
On the 18th
Februayr, 2010,
Sandy was
brought to AAA
by her own
family stating
they the father
of the family is
unhealthy so
they cannot keep
the dog anymore.
They had Sandy
for 8 years and
fed her Pasta &
Cheesecakes. The
dog weighed 11
kgs instead of
her appropriate
weight of 3Kgs
and could hardly
walk. Sandy was
not a puppy when
the family took
her in so she
was much older
than 8 years.
Our sanctuary
manager begged
the family to
keep Sandy since
she loved them
and belonged
with them not in
a sanctuary with
another 100
dogs!
The family
rejected Sandy
and when she was
with us, it was
obvious that her
problems were
much worse than
obesity. Since
the dog was
tremendously
over weight, her
heart was weak
and she had hip
problems. She
moved a few
paces and
stopped to catch
her breath. She
missed her
family especially
in the first
week but than
she seemed to
settle to her
life in AAA,
sharing a kennel
with other small
dogs. She had no
trouble in
adjusting to her
new diet of dry
food, instead of
cheesecakes.
On 18th
March we
got the
good
news
that she
found a
home in
Germany.
Sandy
was to
become a
Berliner
and was
to fly
on 24
March.
Sadly
Sandy's
tiny
heart
gave out
by the
20th and
was
found
dead in
her
kennel.
What a
waste!
To the family
that
abandoned Sandy -
You killed her.

Gabriel |
|
|
|
Gabriel was brought
in AAA in a very bad
state on the
26/03/10, he was
skin and bones and
with a severe skin
infection. Treatment
was started at once
but in the next two
days he was only
getting worse, not
better. He had no
strength to eat and
any food that was
placed in the back
of his mouth he
vomited.
On the 29/03/10, the
vet decided to keep
him in his clinic
for an overnight
stay. During that
night he died.
Gabriel was just 5
months old, a
Chihuahua mix
3kgs puppy, which 5
months he lived in
suffering.

Foxy |

|
|
We got this angel one
fine evening, only to be
euthanized 24 hours
later! He was starved,
beyond eating or drip.
His body kept going in
spasms, from lack of
food. Our sanctuary
administrator tried to
place some paste in his
mouth, his mouth was all
tensed up, he was
holding it so tight even
when the spasms stopped.
There was truly no hope
for him - his body was
all wasted, he was
dying. This is what the
people should see when
they throw them out, and
than maybe, just maybe
they realize that there
is nothing worse than a
life on the streets.

This girl was walking in pain
in the streets of Luqa, probably hit by a car.
People walking and driving by and no one stops and
no one cares. As if she is a piece of garbage.
Christine one of our official members, saw her and
stopped but the dog still would not let her catch
her. So Christine phoned the animal welfare
department so that they would dart her so we could
catch her and help her. They came and the dog was
taken to the vet. Upon examining her the vet pointed
out that she had internal problems. Her stomach was
un-normally large and she looked Leishmania
positive. Her skin , her nose, and the way she
walked all pointed to severe Lieshmania.
Immediately discussions
started on what could be done for this poor dog, she
opened her mouth, gasped and died. She left -
another dog that no one knew or cared that died.
Puppy
with a broken spine
This puppy was brought to AAA by a
person who explained how this dog
was lying in the middle of a street
while cars drove of around him how
no-one dares to even stop -
Shameful.
The dog could not stand up or walk.
He could only lie down on one side
of his body.
|
 |
|
AAA took him to the vet who performed x
rays. The puppy's spine was broken in three
different parts. There was no hope this dog
will grow up, or live a normal dog life or
live without pain. He was euthanised. He
only lived 3 months until his life was taken
away simply because his owners threw him
away in the streets. |

Puppies from Zebbug
|
.jpg) |
AAA received a call about 2 puppies
dumped left to die at 8pm.
Our sanctuary administrator placed
them in a bath because apart from
the fact that they were covered with
ticks, they had no control on their
pee and pooh. It was flowing out
from them.
|
On the way to emergency vet, the
brown puppy open and closed his
mouth and silently he died. The
white one made it to the vet but the
diagnosis were not good. The poor
dog was suffering from leptospirosis
and ehrlichea. His skin was
yellowish green, a sign of liver
failure. The ticks (see last photo)
made the dog terribly anemic.
|
 |

The vet remarked that the dog will die
within a few hours Best decision was
unfortunately euthanasia, no point in
keeping him alive when death was coming for
sure. The vet injected the last remaining
puppy with the euthanizing solution and he
was too sent with his brothers and sisters
that had already died. |

Angela
|
 |
When this dog was brought over it
was obvious that there was something
terribly wrong with her. Taking her
to the vet it was clear that she had
two broken ribs, a punctured neck
and her stomach wound up.
|
|
The vet could feel her intestines literally
like a rock from the outside. Apparently she
got hit by a car, and someone threw her in
the field leaving her to die, that is why
she was covered in leaves and seeds. She
could not walk, so she just rolled over and
over again. |

Angela was dying but still the vet tried
some treatment, so she was kept for further
observation at the clinic. In the evening
the vet phoned telling us that Angela was
not responding to the treatment. Now there
was truly no hope, and Angela was euthanised. |
