Twiggy
Nemo
It all started in February of 2004. It
had been barely two years since our first dog, Prince had to be put down
after 15 and a half wonderful years of companionship. Dad had sworn, NO
MORE DOGS!
But then one night, that February, my dad called me into the living room
to see a picture of three puppies on the internet. I always go googly
eyed when it comes to dogs, so obviously I was all "AAAAWWWWWWWWWW HOW
CUTE!!!!!!" We were immediately drawn to one of them and my dad actually
asked if we get him or not! I looked at him all hopeful and wide-eyed.
As if he had to ask hehe! Well a few days later we went to pick up the
lovely pup from your centre. My brother even left work for a while to
come with us. It was like a big occasion! We took him home and I found
out he gave me a thankyou present on my shirt hehe! He emptied his
little bowel on me. Ah well, nothing serious!!
It took us a week of fighting over names before we finally settled for
Nemo. It's been such a pleasure to have him so far. He's developed his
own character. He's very clumsy, always bumping into things but
amazingly not getting hurt! Very funny and intelligent and a little
silly at the same time. He's very loving and loves cuddles, always
wanting to climb onto our laps to sleep and be cuddled! His playfulness
surpasses any of the other dogs I've ever seen. If you don't pay
attention to him he'll either nip at your ankles or toes or else just
tap you on the leg or arm, whichever one is closer, with his paw. He's
also quite possessive but he makes up for that with all his other good
qualities :) How can you not love him?!
I have to admit it had taken me a while before I let him into my heart
completely after Prince. Prince had been with us since I was 3 years old
and I practically grew up with him. But it didn't take long before Nemo
found his way into my heart :) Even though he can be really naughty or
annoying sometimes (just like regular people), we wouldn't have it any
other way! He's filled the gap Prince left. Of course we can never
forget Prince but Nemo has definitely healed the wound with his clumsy
loving nature. :)
Thanks a lot!!!

Daisy
This is Daisy, who brought so much love and happiness in this
house. She was even accepted by the cat who was in the house
before her. Took some time and patience but now they are the
best of friends!

A new
member of the Family.
Hi my name is Karyn and I am a volunteer with the
association. I would like to tell this story to let
people know that in many cases there are just as many
advantages to adopting an adult animal than just a puppy
or kitten.
The adage that "Its only when they are young that they
will bond to you" or "You can't train them when they are
old, they have too many bad habits" are in many cases
untrue or can be changed with just a little patience. |

This is Coffee. One
of our neighbours feeds the stray cats on our street and
on March 20th (my husband's birthday) she called us over
and said look at the gorgeous cat that had been there
for 3 days. My husband peeked in and there was this
dirty, emaciated skeleton that could hardly be called a
cat. |
|
We had some errands to
run that morning and he said for some reason "I have to
take him home". So we ran our errands, also picking up
some basic cat supplies. Our original plan was to bring
him in, feed him up and then find a good home for him.
We could tell he was a pure breed. When we went back and
called him he went straight to my husband as if knowing
we were going to help. When I picked him up I was scared
because he weighed nothing and all I could feel was
bones, there weren't even any muscles.
We got him home and because he was so dirty the first
thing we had to do was give him a bath, to prevent any
fleas or other things being brought into the house. Even
the fact that he smelled bad. Well as any of you who may
have owned a cat in the past can imagine what we were
thinking as to how the cat would react to being given a
bath by total strangers. He was amazing, he cried a bit
and struggled a bit, but in his condition he didn't have
the
strength to do anything. He never even tried to claw or
bite us. Then he
seemed to give up and accept the fact that the job was
going to be done and if he stopped struggling it would
soon be over with, and it was.
We discovered to our horror that it looks like someone
had beaten this cat.
He had a broken incisor, a scab on his bottom lip and
what felt like 2 ribs which had been cracked but had
healed. From the way he was afraid to explore the house,
it was like he only lived in 2 rooms. Even with feeding,
for almost a month we had to hand feed him and actually
give him permission to eat. It was like he was afraid
that the food would be taken away. He never was naughty
with going on the table or kitchen counter. Even when he
went on the sofa, he would all of a sudden get startled
and jump down as if he had never been allowed on the
furniture or was punished when he was.
Coffee has never bitten or scratched us. I have never
even heard him hiss at us. When we had the Vet to the
house a few days after we got him, he even behaved with
the Vet! He had a lung infection for which I had to give
him tablets and I even managed those without too much
problem. The Vet stated that Coffee was about 5 or 6
years old.
This poor cat didn't even know how to play. When he
started learning to play with the ball or the fake
mouse, he got so excited he was like a kitten learning
to play. He was actually extremely good at catching the
ball. In fact he has turned out to be so good at it that
he has actually caught 2 mice and was so darn proud of
himself.
My point of this whole story is that this cat who had
been abused and starved has become so much a part of our
life and adapted to how we live, even to the point of
not waking us in the morning until the alarm clock goes
off, that in many ways I think it is so much better to
adopt an adult animal than a puppy or kitten. You don't
have to go through the frantic playing, tearing through
the house and breaking things though exploring. Any new
animal will thoroughly explore their new domain but an
adult is more likely to be much more calm about it.
So think about adopting a grown up animal and get them
fixed.

HI AAA
PEOPLE,
I THINK
YOU’VE ALL REMEMBER ‘HOOCH’ THE BLACK And Tan dog whom I got
to AAA on the 22nd September 2005. I named him
‘hooch’. When I got this abandoned dog at AAA last September
I was already missing him after an hour he spent with us.
From AAA I was given the permission to keep the dog there
and visit him regularly. I kept the appointment almost every
Saturday or Sunday. I really wanted him a great bond was
created between Hooch and Myself. When I used to come there
ant take him out the dog’s character was really dull. After
10 months wanting hooch I was given permission from home to
adopt him. Hooch is now my companion (apart of other pets)
for the rest of his/my life. His character now is very
lively although obedient and thanks to AAA Freddie Fenech
and staff he’s in good health.
Regards
and Thanks,
Antoine J.

Floyd
Dear Friends,
 |
I'm sending you a
picture of Floyd, who was adopted from the AAA last August, 2005.
He's now 11 months old, very playful, happy and so energetic. Floyd
brought us so much happiness in our house after we lost our 13 year
old Cocker Spaniel. Floyd's not only gorgeous, he's adorable and so
loyal - as you can imagine, my husband Ray & I love him to
bits!!!!!!! We strongly suggest to people that it's better to adopt
an abandoned cross breed, rather than buying a pedigree dog.
Thank you so much for all the hard work you're doing with these
wonderful creatures......and thank you for bringing Floyd to our
lives.
God Bless You

Benji
"We are
very pleased pleased with Benji as he is the perfect dog that
we were looking for" . "We are more than just pleased should you
put us on the mentioned website, perhaps who knows some other
dogs may be as lucky as our Benji. Regards and many thanks,
Maria Schembri"
These
are the words told to us when Benji found a home at the Schembri
Family. One fine day they they came to the AAA, very sad that
their previous dog died due to old age. Since they are an animal
loving family they desparately wanted another dog. Benji was
just rescued by Freddie and when they saw him they fell in love
with him immediately.
